Alytus, the sixth largest Lithuanian city is situated along the both banks of the river Nemunas. The population of the city exceeds 77 thousand. Alytus is located at the crossing of the main roads linking Kaunas with Grodno ( Belarus) and Vilnius with Lazdijai ( Lithuanian-Polish border town). The distance from Alytus to Kaunas is 70 km (driving along the Via Baltica), whereas from Alytus to Vilnius are 105 km.
